Call 11 For Action: Routine surgery for women causes complications
CURTICE, OH (WTOL) – Imagine going into the hospital for a routine surgery, but then develop complications that are life changing and actually affects thousands of others suffering from similar problems from the same surgery. This is the reality for one local woman who called Call 11 for Action.
"The only way I can do anything - stop it - is to stand up and say stop putting it in women," said Teresa Sawyer.

DALLAS - Art is his passion. But Hal Samples is a tortured artist for another reason. "It can be a bend-over pain, where it will be a sharp stab," Samples said of the agonizing pain that radiates daily from his abdomen. Several years ago, a piece of plastic mesh was implanted in Samples gut to correct a hernia. Surgical mesh is a synthetic material, manufactured by several companies. It's routinely used for hernia, pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence. Consumer advocate group Public Citizen estimates about 67,000 women last year had the product implanted for bladder control reasons. FDA Warning on Mesh - Dr. Peggy Norton, Univ. of Utah
Description: The FDA issued a new warning on July 13, 2011 about the use of mesh in pelvic reconstructive surgeries. Dr. Norton describes some of the risks associated with vaginal mesh commonly used in surgery to correct pelvic prolapse.

Comment: They came out with a second warning for a very good reason because they know complications are 'NOT RARE' and thousands of people are harmed. The message to the Physicians is 'STOP USING MESH' and for the Patient 'Don't allow them to use Synthetic Mesh in your body' Question: Where are the experienced surgeons to deal with mesh related complications? We refuse to accept 'qualified' surgeons we need 'qualified AND experienced' surgeons, there are very few surgeons who can perform a mesh removal procedure around the World.

At this present time we do our own extensive research on this area as I was told from a Medical Professional and on good authority "the medical profession is actually very alert to surgical complications and sadly, investment in research into the area is not regarded as a priority by medical research funding bodies, which seriously hampers our ability to get a true handle on the situation".
